New York Red Bulls seems not to feel the drift Tim Cahill has taken when he decided to move to Shanghai Shenhua. To the team, it appears to be more of tying loses ends rather than losing rather a priced asset. The team also has different inclinations on how it handles the management. Take for example how they sacked hero-coach Mike Petke who happens to be the only coach who brought them a trophy. This could be argued as a cautious goodwill being endangered by such gestures especially as it is the post-Thiery Henry era which had been thought to be a time to redefine the team’s unique selling points. Another issue is how they shrewdly laid their hands on Leo Stolz, country’s top college player. They even were smart enough to overtake Los Angeles Galaxy and signed Sacha Kljestan before they reached him and the same applied to Montreal’s playmaker Felipe Martins. The latter however was more explainable as they had to let go Ambroise Oyongo and Eric Alexander to make this happen.

Head coach Jesse Marsch has managed to bring on board Denis Hamlett who happens to be an MLS player as well as a coach as his first assistant. Hamlett is expected to bring home the experience he gained since he started coaching Chicago in 2001 way through to Vancouver Whitecaps in 2012. Jean Baptiste is expected to join New York Red Bulls after a two year play in college soccer with the University of Connecticut.
